The Jerry Garcia Amphitheater
Located off Shelley Drive near Cambridge, the open-air
amphitheater is a six-sided structure with the seating capacity of 600
and room for additional hundreds on the grassy slopes. Although designed
for multi-purpose use, it will function primarily as a medium for the
performing arts. The stage is 27 feet across at its widest point, 62 feet
in length and framed by pre-cast columns, which blend dramatically and
harmoniously with the nearby trees and stretches of open space. Architects
were Will, Thornton, Warner and Levikow and contractor, G.M. Labrucherie
and Associates. The project was funded by a state grant. Equipped for
nighttime use, the amphitheater parking lot is also accessible by MUNI
transportation, including Numbers 81, 15, 20, 29 buses which serve the
